Our Pebble Beach Home- Project Completed!!

Our Pebble Beach home and project is now complete and ready for it's new owner!  Our European Farmhouse renovation is now on the market and for sale!   We have touched every inch of space inside and out and have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this renovation.  I hope it shows!

Our Back Garden Nearly Complete!

Hello!!

No we haven't fallen off the grid :), although I'm thinking that sounds pretty good right about now.  My real job has me working very long days and we have been equally busy on the house projects since my last post.

But enough of that, let's get to the good stuff- Our back garden is nearly complete- Let's take a look-

We both love relaxing outside and wanted to create the feel of an open air room. Our back garden is quite large so we created separate areas for gardening, grilling and relaxing with a glass of wine.

The oak trees create the most beautiful canopy so this space was perfect for "chillin" at the end of the day and on weekends.  An outside music system was installed and is great when entertaining, or we hang out just listening to the seals bark down at the beach and the birds swooping through the trees. It's sooo relaxing!

 

The old copper vessel, crusty french doors and mantle added that touch of rustic charm that instantly transformed this space, and how I loved shopping for all this too :)!

A small garden area was fenced with grape stakes. The pillar in the center with the sun dial was left here by the prior owners.  We have incorporated many little treasures like that back into the landscape here.

I haven't planted too much in here yet, just a bit of rosemary for now.

The grilling area is not finished yet. We are building a built in BBQ grill and bar area  that will be next to a very large apple tree.  So more photos will follow within the next several weeks on this project.

This was quite a transformation. A few before photos are below. This is what the same space looked like when we moved in. This is the area under the trees-

and this is where the fenced garden is now-  See the pillar with the sundial lol!


and by the way- our very own little superman loves this back garden too :)

Our Bathroom Renovation is Complete!

 Finally!!  Our bathroom renovation is complete. We managed to finish right before our guests arrived for the Easter holiday.

 I painted the pine sink base and Tom tiled the top with the same tumbled stone we used in the shower and on the floor.

I purchased the sink base from an antique store last year.  It looked like this back then....

Like the rest of our home,we chose creamy beige tones, rustic beams and touches of green.

We also elected to go with a shower only rather than the tub shower combination that was originally there.

We raised the ceiling and added a few rustic beams

and the walls are cloaked in the same beautiful limestone plaster we are using throughout the rest of the home.

Now, for all the horrible before photos. This was the original 1960's bath minus the three layers of wallpaper I scraped off the walls! Ugh.

We let the dust settle over the Easter holiday while our sweet little Mason came to visit-

He is getting to be such a big boy now :)

Next week a contractor and crew will start on our backyard landscape project while inside Tom is busy getting ready to plaster our guest bedroom and hallway. I am choosing fixtures, sinks, tub etc., for the master bath and bedroom remodel which is up next.  I'm so excited, the inside is almost finished!!

Little barnhouse update and some country inspiration

The past six weeks have flown by and while most of the work is currently happening inside this little place the one major thing we're doing to the exterior is giving it a big dose of barn red paint!   We are in the process of painting now and I just love it!  I couldn't wait to share-even though we're not finished yet.

  

The deck on the left will also be rebuilt and modified. It has a cat walk on one side of the house that neither of us like so it will be removed.

I  bought a few lights for the exterior from Barn Light Electric. The galvanized look is perfect against the red.

 

 

 And on the inside....

The interior was gutted several weeks ago and bundles of white oak hardwood for the floors have been acclimating nicely in the living area.    The two large windows were just installed. This room had small windows which didn't take advantage of the beautiful views outside.

The post and beam construction will be interesting to work with in this long narrow space. The post here is off center and most of the beams were painted with several layers of enamel paint :(. 

We hired a contractor to rebuild the stairs- they were quite narrow and a bit steep. We haven't decided on the type of railing just yet.

I am so happy the demo portion  is done in here.  Now on to some interior kitchen inspiration!
 

First, I tested a new grey based stain on some sample pieces of the hardwood floor. I really like the muted tone, it's very grey brown. Love it!

Since we also gutted  the space in the tiny kitchen, I've been gathering photos which really capture the look and feel I would like to achieve.  A simple understated country feel is the goal as in the photos here....

And while the days spent here are always busy busy, the evenings are for enjoying the local wine, the warm summer weather, and more beautiful views!

A few Antique finds and we're in "Demo" mode again!

Now that the holidays and family gatherings are behind us, it was time to get into that all too familiar "demolition mode" and start renovating our guest bathroom and our den.  I'll share photos as we progress on both rooms, but first-I wanted to share a few finds I scored recently while antiquing.

I found the perfect piece to anchor my bathroom remodel.  This sweet little pine cabinet with marble top will
serve as the base for a vessel sink. 

I'm a sucker for aged pine and the intricate detail, marble top and large storage in the base make it perfect for a sink base.

I found this pair of oil paintings- not certain where I will use yet, but I couldn't resist them.

They reminded me of some of the charming older homes that dot our Pebble Beach coastline.

I snagged a small chandelier to hang in our den.   I will likely remove the crystal droplets when we hang it-I just prefer chandeliers without them

and last but not least,  this small dresser for our guest studio.  It initially had some chippy yellow paint that I sanded down, white washed and finished with a few coats of wax. It will be perfect when we have guests staying with us!

So I'll leave you now with a photo of a before shot of our guest bath remodel.  When I dashed out of the house yesterday with a to do list a mile long- I asked Tom to snap a few before pics once he removed all the "stuff" but before he started the actual demo.  This is what I found on the camera when I got home....

yes, I'm still laughing!   There are a few other pics I think I can salvage and I snapped a few more.   I look forward to sharing them as we progress on these projects.  Thanks for reading and happy new year!!
